Brian Swartz

Brian Swartz is a jazz trumpeter based in Los Angeles, California.  The son of a career trumpeter in the United States Air Force, Brian took up the trumpet at age ten.  In 1979, his family settled in the San Francisco Bay Area where Brian attended Armijo High School.  He excelled at trumpet and won many honors.  In 1988, Brian relocated to Los Angeles to attend Cal State University at Northridge where he played in the “A” jazz band under Joel Leach.  Brian later attended USC where he thrived under the direction of John Thomas and Shelly Berg.  Brian’s trumpet education has included private study with Bobby Shew, John Thomas, Tony Lujan, Bill Bing, Uan Rasey and John Coppola.

Professionally, Brian Swartz has played or recorded with some of the biggest names in the music business including:  Michael Bublè, Patti Labelle, The Dixie Chicks, The O’Jays, Brad Mehldau, Tom Harrell, Keb’ Mo’, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jackie Greene, Francisco Aguabella, Taylor Eigsti, Buddy Childers, Bob Florence and many others.

As a leader, Brian has released three CD’s:   “There’s Only Me,” Noir Records (2000);  “Live at the Jazz Bakery,” Summit Records (2005); and “Three,” Summit Records (2006).

Brian has been teaching private students since 1997 and maintains a busy schedule of lessons in the Los Angeles area.
